The Daniel Jordan Fiddle Foundation The mission of DJF is to award grants to programs that benefit adolescents and adults with Autism. Each year, the DJF Board of Trustees receives proposals from organizations throughout the United States and abroad seeking grant support for programs benefiting adolescents and adults that may involve vocational, educational, residential, recreational or family related endeavors. In each calendar year, the DJF Board of Trustees will determine, at their sole discretion, the number, dollar amount and type (s) of grants to be awarded. Generally, these decisions are based on the quality of the proposals received and the feasibility of implementation by the prospective grantees.
Additional factors considered include the potential for program replication in other communities and the originality of the proposed program. Importantly, however, the determination is not limited to any of the factors stated above.
SFARI’s mission is to improve the understanding, diagnosis and treatment of autism spectrum disorders by funding innovative research of the highest quality and relevance. Launched in 2003, SFARI is a scientific initiative within the Simons Foundation’s suite of programs and is its only program focusing on the science underlying a medical condition.
In 2007, SFARI issued its first request for applications, its goal being to attract top researchers to the field of autism research. Today, with a budget of approximately $65 million per year, SFARI supports 175 investigators and since its launch has provided or committed more than $362 million in external research support to more than 250 investigators in the U.S. and abroad.
SFARI now offers annual Research Awards and Pilot Awards, as well as Explorer Awards, awarded on a rolling basis, all of which solicit applications for projects across all areas of autism science. From time to time, SFARI also offers targeted requests for applications, seeking to fund projects in a tightly defined area.
In FY 2017, the Institute intends to fund research focused on teachers and other instructional personnel who provide instruction for students with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD). Specifically, this topic supports research that contributes to the identification of effective strategies and the knowledge and skills necessary for teachers and other instructional personnel to implement comprehensive school-based interventions (i.e., interventions that directly target, in a coordinated fashion, multiple student outcomes) and improve outcomes for students identified with or at risk for ASD from kindergarten through Grade 12.
